Start here

• Quick start: import one score and open it in the reader — the shortest complete path through the app.
• Requirements: device, system version, storage, and which features need a network connection.
• Permissions: camera, microphone, and media access are each requested the first time a feature needs them, not at install. This page lists which feature triggers which request.

Find and organize your scores

The library opens on four tabs that change which scores the list shows:

• My Library — scores you imported or scanned; your private collection and the default tab.
• Catalog — the shared classical catalog of public-domain works. Browsing it adds nothing to your library.
• Calibrated — only the pieces already prepared for score following.
• All — your library and the catalog together.

Bring scores in

• Files and folders: Import file (PDF · MusicXML · MEI · image) accepts the four supported formats; Import from local folder and Import from IMSLP handle folders and the public-domain archive.
• Scan with the camera: Scan a score captures paper pages into a PDF. Requires camera access.
• From other apps: move an existing library over using the Files app or the share sheet.
• Bulk review: after a large import, review and correct matched titles and composers in one pass instead of piece by piece.

Read, turn, annotate

• Reader navigation: move through pages and movements, and keep several pieces open at once.
• Page turning: tap or swipe manually, or add a hands-free method. Bluetooth page pedal and Face gesture page turning are both set up from the reader's Toolbox under Accessibility — not from Settings.
• Annotations: mark fingerings, draw, and write on the score, with or without Apple Pencil.
• Edit and export: crop, reorder, and export an annotated copy.

Practise and perform

• Follow listens through the microphone during a live session and moves the tracker through a prepared score. It needs microphone access, a network connection, and score preparation before it is reliable — start with Follow overview, then Prepare a score and Reliability before trusting it in performance.
• Smart Score converts a PDF or scan into notation the app can analyse, finger, and track. Conversion output must be reviewed before use: see Smart Score overview and Fix a conversion.
• Practice tools covers Transpose, Focus Mode, Metronome, Tuner, and Piano, all reachable from the reader without leaving the current score. Analysis, Fingering, and the Recording studio each have their own page.

Note On iPads with Apple Intelligence (M-series or A17 Pro and later, iPadOS 26+), score questions in the analysis chat are answered by the on-device model — no network connection required. Other devices automatically use the cloud service instead.

Hands-free and input devices

• Hands-free controls: pedal and face-gesture page turning in one place.
• Apple Pencil and keyboard: annotation input and keyboard shortcuts.

Privacy

Before using Follow in a lesson or performance, read Privacy & data: it states what the microphone stream is used for, what stays on the device, and which settings control whether any audio leaves it.

When something fails

Troubleshooting pages lead with the symptom you can observe, then test causes in the cheapest safe order:

• Follow problems — tracker not moving, wrong position, no lock.
• Import and conversion problems — files that fail to import or convert badly.
• Sync and performance problems — missing pieces across devices, slow pages.

Limit Feature availability varies by device, score type, account state, and network access. Each page names its own dependencies; this guide does not imply feature parity between iPad and iPhone.
